Need Motivation? Look No Further Than Robyn Benincasa

Robyn Benincasa’s resume is very impressive. She is a New York Times best-selling author, a World Champion Eco-Challenge Adventure Racer, a three-time Guinness World Record distance paddler, a full-time San Diego firefighter, and she has metal bionic hips. Simply put, Robyn Benincasa knows about winning, and knows what it takes to overcome obstacles to achieve her goals.

When Benincasa was running a race in 2007, her leg gave out and she collapsed. Soon after, she was diagnosed with osteoarthritis in both of her hips, and she was told she would never run again. But she had the first of her now four hip replacements, and she started training again.

This struggle is what led Robyn Benincasa to create Project Athena, an organization that helps women achieve their dreams no matter what setbacks they face. Grants, called Athenaships, are rewarded to women who want to live their adventures, but need a little help with training, equipment, or travel expenses. These Athenaship winners are given the option to embark on an adventure of their choosing, or partake in the 45-mile Grand Canyon hike or 100-mile kayak, hike and cycle through the Florida Keys put on by Project Athena.

When Robyn Benincasa isn’t busy inspiring women with Project Athena, or chasing her own dreams, she also runs her other companies, World Class Teams and Flashover Seminars. With these companies, Benincasa provides unique team building experiences, whether it’s through seminars, keynotes speeches, or leadership skill-building activities.

Benincasa has been called California’s fittest woman, and that is no surprise. She has been competing in gymnastics, judo, diving and cross country since a young age, and she has completed six Ironman races, making it to the podium twice. She has biked through the jungles of Borneo, hiked the Himalayas, and rafted through Chilean rapids. Benincasa also has a day job at a Fortune 500 pharmaceutical company, a career she began right out of Arizona State University, and she is a member of the USA’s first all-female firefighting crew.

Benincasa credits a lot of her success to her ability to work well as a team member, and this is the focus of the book she wrote in 2012, How Winning Works: 8 Essential Leadership Lessons from the Toughest Teams on Earth. This is the knowledge she passes along in her team-building lessons with World Class Teams and Flashover Seminars. Robyn Benincasa is an undoubtedly incredibly impressive woman with a wealth of experience, knowledge, and achievements.
